1. Who we are
BClear Lab is a coach for British English pronunciation that reads your articulation through the camera. It is built and run by Eleonora Konovalova (“we”, “us”).
This policy covers the website bclearlab.com and the closed beta of the app at app.bclearlab.com. You can reach us about anything in it at info@bclearlab.ru.
2. What stays on your device
The app turns on the camera only after you press “Turn on camera” and allow access in your browser. The video is processed right in your browser: the app finds the outline of your lips and the position of your head and shows a hint straight away. Video and individual frames are never recorded, never uploaded and never sent to us or anyone else. The microphone is not used in the current version.
Your browser keeps the following on your device:
- your neutral-face calibration, a short list of numbers that describes your lips at rest;
- your attempt history and progress by sound;
- your app settings.
We have no access to any of this. You can delete it with “Recalibrate to my face” in the app or by clearing the site data for app.bclearlab.com in your browser settings.
The face-tracking library the app uses, MediaPipe, tries to send usage statistics to Google. The app blocks this: your browser is only allowed to talk to our own server.
3. What we receive
Messages you send us. When you join the waitlist, the form opens your email app with a ready message, and it is sent from your own mailbox. We receive your email address, your English level and your answer about your goals if you filled them in. The same goes for anything you write to us by email or on Telegram.
Signing in to the app. After you sign in, the browser keeps a cookie called bclear_session for 30 days. It is the same for everyone with a valid password and does not tell one person from another. To protect sign-in from password guessing, the server keeps your IP address in memory for up to 10 minutes; it is never written to disk.
Server logs. Our hosting provider automatically logs the IP address, time, requested address and browser details of each request to keep the platform running and secure.
4. Cookies and analytics
The website uses Yandex Metrica to understand which pages help and where visitors leave. It sets cookies and receives your IP address, device and browser details, the page you came from, and the pages you view, clicks and scrolling. Session recording is turned off. You can block these cookies in your browser settings, and the website works fully without them.
The app has no analytics. Its only cookie is the sign-in cookie described above.
5. How we use your data
- to invite you when access opens and to reply to your messages;
- to ask about your goals with pronunciation, if you don’t mind, so we can decide what to build;
- to understand how the website is used and what to fix;
- to run the app and keep it secure.
We don’t send marketing newsletters, we don’t sell your data and we don’t use it for advertising.
6. Who helps us
We share data only with the services we need to run BClear Lab, and only as far as their job requires:
- Timeweb Cloud hosts the website and the app;
- Yandex 360 hosts our email, including waitlist messages;
- Yandex Metrica provides website analytics.
Telegram is an independent service with its own privacy policy. We may disclose data if the law requires it.
7. How long we keep it
- Waitlist messages and emails: until you ask us to delete them, and no longer than three years after your last message.
- Sign-in cookie: 30 days in your browser.
- IP address for sign-in protection: up to 10 minutes in server memory.
- App data on your device: until you delete it.
- Analytics and server logs: according to the rules of Yandex Metrica and Timeweb Cloud.
8. Your choices
You can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or take back your permission to contact you. Write to info@bclearlab.ru, ideally from the address you used before; one line is enough. We reply within 10 working days.
9. Age
BClear Lab is for people aged 18 and over. If we learn that someone younger has sent us their data, we will delete it.
10. Changes
The current version of this policy is always on this page with its date. If we make a significant change, we will email the people on the waitlist in advance.
